LOS VESTIGIOS DE LAS MINAS DE SANTA ANA DE FALAN

Ruins of a lost city, place that conserves some of the mining constructions of the XVII century. I carry to an extreme of one of the tunnels for where the gold was transported from the mountains of the municipality of Falan, until the center of Ladybug where they coined the mineral. Located in the imposing canyon of the river Morales, to so alone 40 minutes of the urban helmet, inmerso among the nature, adorns It horseshoe roads, as well as brick tunnels, used for the extraction of minerals and walls of 2 and 4 meters high, for 300 meters long, built in carefully carved flagstone, are conserved great variety of constructions of the time among which we highlight: housings or deposits, rudimentary tunnels for extraction of minerals, built tunnels carefully in brick.

The house of the Recruiting, a construction is also conserved made in flagstone, similar to a safe, where the Spaniards kept their valuable objects zealously. But this it is alone a part of the history that contains this mine that was administered by José Celestino Mutis during 10 years, the priest, botanist and mathematical that directed the Expedition Mutis for the New Kingdom of Granada. "The vestiges of the mine are a wonderful work, hidden amid the vegetation. Without a doubt, it is a historical and cultural patrimony of the country that deserves to be conserved", he affirms Germán Sánchez, secretary of Tourism of the Tolima who adds that the ruins were included in the journey of the Expedition Mutis.

From the mirador of the hill San Juan the state of fragmentation of the forest is appreciated in the area that allows to see its scars from the head of the municipality until the valley for agricultural pressure of Gunsmith-Guayabal. However, beside the mirador, a small patch of native vegetation is preserved that continues being relicto for species.
